Discover Restaurante - Pizzería Salvatore

Tucked into Calle Miguel Ángel Blanco, 26, 33013 Oviedo, Asturias, Spain, Restaurante - Pizzería Salvatore feels like the kind of place you discover once and then keep going back to. The first time I walked in, it was a rainy evening in Oviedo, and the warm scent of wood-fired dough and melted mozzarella instantly made the weather irrelevant. The dining room was buzzing but not chaotic, with families sharing large pizzas and couples lingering over glasses of Rioja.

The menu is built around classic Italian comfort food, yet it adapts beautifully to local Asturian tastes. You’ll find traditional pizzas like Margherita and Diavola, but also house specialties layered with Iberian ham or regional cheeses. Their pasta selection covers the essentials-carbonara, lasagna, tagliatelle with seafood-prepared with attention to texture and balance. As someone who has worked in hospitality consulting, I pay close attention to consistency. On two separate visits, weeks apart, the crust came out perfectly blistered and airy, which tells me the kitchen follows a disciplined fermentation process rather than rushing the dough.

According to the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, authentic pizza dough requires proper hydration and fermentation to achieve that light, digestible texture. You can taste that care here. The base is thin in the center, slightly puffed at the edges, and carries just enough char to add complexity without bitterness. That balance doesn’t happen by accident; it comes from controlled oven temperatures and trained pizzaiolos who understand timing down to the minute.

What stands out most, though, is how the flavors come together. The tomato sauce tastes fresh and slightly sweet, suggesting quality San Marzano-style tomatoes. The mozzarella melts evenly, creating that stretchy, satisfying pull with every slice. On my last visit, I tried a seafood pizza topped with prawns and mussels-ingredients that can easily overwhelm a dish. Instead, they were well-drained and seasoned lightly, letting the dough remain the star. That level of restraint shows culinary confidence.

Service also deserves mention. In many pizzerias, speed overshadows hospitality. Here, the staff strike a healthy balance. They guide you through the menu without hovering, and they’re happy to recommend wine pairings. A young server once suggested a local Asturian cider to accompany my calzone, explaining how its acidity would cut through the richness of the cheese. She was absolutely right. That small but informed recommendation elevated the entire meal.

Online reviews frequently praise the generous portions and reasonable pricing. After personally comparing portion sizes with other Italian restaurants in Oviedo, I can confirm the value is solid. A large pizza comfortably feeds two adults, and the pasta plates are anything but modest. Families especially seem to appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, where kids are welcomed rather than merely tolerated.

Cleanliness and organization, two factors often overlooked in casual dining reviews, are handled well. Tables are reset quickly, and the open kitchen area appears orderly. While I can’t speak for every single service hour, my experiences have been consistently positive. If there’s any limitation, it’s that peak dinner times can mean a short wait, especially on weekends. However, the turnover is efficient, and the wait rarely feels excessive.

From a broader culinary perspective, Italian cuisine’s global appeal lies in its simplicity and quality ingredients. Food historians and institutions like the Italian Culinary Institute emphasize that great Italian cooking relies on technique and raw material integrity rather than complexity. You see that philosophy reflected here. The dishes are straightforward, but the execution is thoughtful.

Location matters too. Being situated in Oviedo makes it convenient for both locals and visitors exploring Asturias. After strolling through the city center or finishing a day of sightseeing, settling into a cozy pizzeria with a reliable menu feels just right. Whether you’re craving a crisp pizza, hearty pasta, or a casual dinner with friends, this spot delivers dependable flavor and an inviting setting without unnecessary fuss.

  • When you look around and can’t find an obvious choice of restaurant, and end up “compromising” on a Pizzeria - to find out that it is actually a wonderful place. Pizzas amazing, but the grilled salmon with salad was outstanding. Great ice cold Alvarinho. Amazing Tiramisu. And the staff wonderful.

  • I'm very glad I went to this place. We ordered a pizza and pasta. The pizza was delicious. They were very generous with the cheese and the pizza crust was especially delicious -- it had a crunchy outer layer and a softer inside that wasn't too dry like other pizzas. It also had some slight seasoning so it wasn't bland. The pasta was also delicious with generous portions, al dente, with good-tasting meat. The waiter was attentive, friendly, and efficient even though he was the only waiter for around 10 tables.
